Roses, those timeless emblems of the mystical and the sacred, have woven their essence through the tapestry of human culture and spirituality for over 5,000 years. With approximately 150 natural species and a myriad of cultivars, these enigmatic blooms were first nurtured into existence by the ancient Chinese, masters of the art of hybridization.

In mythology and ancient lore, the rose frequently emerges as a symbol of divine mystery and profound emotion. Homer, in his epic "Iliad," recounts the solemn ritual of anointing Hector's body with sacred rose oil, a testament to the flower's deep spiritual resonance. Greek mythology further enriches this narrative, depicting white roses as born from the sea foam of Aphrodite, turning a mournful red with her tears over Adonis. These roses, intertwined with deities such as Eros, were celebrated by Sappho as the sovereign "Queen of the Flowers." The Romans revered roses, embedding them in their rituals and public spaces. These blooms crowned the heads of brides and grooms and were strewn at the feet of victorious warriors, linking them forever to rites of passage and divine favor.

In Christian iconography, the rose evolved to symbolize the blood and suffering of Christ, with each petal representing one of his sacred wounds. Similarly, roses came to embody the purity and maternal grace of the Virgin Mary. She is the Queen of the Heart and is so much more than our current Western culture knows.

What is a dieta?

A Master Plant Dieta is a traditional process of meeting, connecting, and merging with the animate essence of a plant spirit. It is a marriage where consent is needed on both sides. We do not use plants. We work with the plants. Through a dieta, we work with a plant’s spirit directly to receive its teachings and wisdom and imbue its healing essence within you. By creating a respectful bond with the spirit of the sacred rose, for example, you invite its guidance and assistance during your healing journey. A specific set of rules regarding eating, drinking, and behaviors is provided to you. Your commitment is to adhere to these rules and incorporate the plant you are dieting in your daily life. This incorporation varies depending on the plant.

Master Plant Dietas are integral to lineages like Shipibo-Conibo, Quechua-Lamista, and Mestizo traditions. They are initiations woven into life and serve as preparation for other ceremonies. Plants are medicine.

There are two types of dietas - isolated and social. For the Sacred Rose Priestess Path Initiation, our sacred dieta with Rose will be a social dieta. Isolated dieta are typically done in jungle or wilderness environments, and there is a complete disconnection from the external world. You are completely immersed within the spirit of the plant you are dieting in an isolated dieta. Your dieta is your full-time job.

My intention with this dieta was to open this realm to people who feel called to do this work, but are unable to do an isolated dieta at this time in their life. I will be offering an isolated dieta, which will be a part of a larger program in Greece at the end of 2025. Social dietas are a good starting point for those who have not worked with plants in this way.

If you feel called, we can open your dieta prior to our group Opening Ceremony and close your dieta after the date of the Closing Ceremony. We follow the guidance and messages that Sacred Rose provides us.

I’m Maria Sofia

The priestess path has been a reclamation of my Hellene(Greek) lineage. This is my birth rite and my calling. This road has been a winding and sometimes treacherous road to navigate, filled with challenges and triumphs - always cloaked in mystery. Mystery has been the primal force that has been a steady constant.

Receiving the call into alternate states of knowing and consciousness at age three, one of my first visions was of a blood-red rose blooming before me. I remember it so vividly. It was almost as close to my nose is to my face. The Sacred Rose to me came after I saw a vision of myself falling from a great height as an adult version of myself. At three years old, I do not think I had a concept of what adult me would be, but I knew that my child-self was not what I was seeing into. Was the vision showing my death and was the rose a symbol of my rebirth? Again, the Mystery would not answer.

My very first master plant dieta was in 2018, with the mystical and magical Rose. The medicine of the Rose my mariri, or main plant ally. I have held dietas with Rose for individuals and this is my first group offering. This initiation will be the prerequisite for my Priestess Mystery School.

If you’ve tried honing your spiritual gifts in the past and it felt hard to grasp, it’s likely because spirituality and intuition do not follow the same step-by-step, linear process that we’ve been conditioned to look for and follow. 

In the not-so-distant ancient world, there were places you could go and training you would receive. Your community would honor you for your abilities and would know that these gifts needed to be cultivated.

Now, we are left with books and courses, but without the space to practice, integrate, and nurture your intuition. What’s even more disheartening is that we are left without like-minded people to reflect to us that our spiritual gifts are real and powerful.
